"You Are My Sunday" Screening
Film Synopsis: Dodging the crowded bustle and choked streets of Mumbai, five thirtysomething friends find an outlet for their frustrations by playing Sunday soccer on Juhu Beach. Then, fate intervenes in the form of a sweet but senile old man, and they are forced to search for another space to play – an impossible task in Mumbai. Writer/Director Milind Dhaimade has a firm grip on the young, beleaguered Indian middle class with a story that shifts effortlessly from one young man to the next, focusing on their trouble forming relationships and, even more basic – on their difficulty in simply growing up.

“You Are My Sunday” is a film about men, but throughout, the women are the responsible, capable ones who hold down executive jobs, raise children with disabilities, or have extraordinary social skills that prove them capable of mending fences and hurts. “You Are My Sunday” is a charming and loving look at contemporary India.

Film Synopsis: “Siddharth” is the story of an impoverished and anguished father journeying across India in search of his only son who has disappeared. Mahendra is a chain-wallah, eking out a living fixing zippers on the bustling streets of New Delhi. To ease his financial woes, he sends twelve-year-old Siddharth to work in a distant factory. When the boy does not return for Diwali, as promised, Mahendra and his wife slowly come to accept that Siddharth could have been abducted by child traffickers. With few resources and virtually no experience of the world outside of Delhi, Mahendra bravely sets out for the Punjab, and Mumbai, hoping against hope to find his son unharmed.

“Ventilator” screening

Film Synopsis: Every year, the occasion of ‘Ganesh Utsav’ mobilizes the large Kamerkar clan as the one festival they religiously celebrate because of ancestral tradition. The arrival of their Ganpati idols is a mere three days away, but the news of the critical condition of Gajanan Kaka in Mumbai brings their preparations to a sudden halt. Gajanan Kaka has played a pivotal role in overseeing the family affairs and his condition dampens the preparatory spirit of the festival.

Gajanan Kaka is put on a ventilator and slowly the family members gather at the hospital. His son, his sister and some close family members refuse to accept the truth about his illness. Another family member, Raja (RK) - the ‘pride’ of the clan - arrives and galvanizes the family because he has become a successful Bollywood director. Even in such a somber moment, the lure of Bollywood calls loud and clear! In the midst of the chaos, it is Dada, the most sensible one, who relentlessly brings the gravity of the situation to the fore.
