While the film industry is usually associated with unlimited budgets, the reality is that as a non-profit arts organization devoted to independent film, Heartland Film depends on donations to carry out our mission to curate, promote and celebrate thoughtful and engaging films from diverse perspectives. Consider making a donation to support the future of our organization and independent film in Indianapolis. You can give online here!

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! Volunteers truly are the heart, face, hands and feet of Heartland Film. It takes hundreds of volunteers to help put on the Heartland International Film Festival, Indy Shorts International Film Festival and year-round programs. We have all types of volunteer opportunities including planning of events, working at the theaters and providing our signature Hoosier hospitality for filmmakers and guests.
Become a volunteer today by creating a Volunteer Account and selecting your interests.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
Heartland Film reviews thousands of film submissions for HIFF and Indy Shorts every year! Our volunteer pre-screening committees’ primary task of a committee member is to thoughtfully view and identify films of interest to the Heartland Film programming staff.
The Heartland Film programming staff carefully selects applicants based on their knowledge and interest in film and their strength in writing and film evaluation. All pre-screeners are required to go through an application process.
Please note, this committee is not for the casual movie watcher. Pre-screeners are required to view a minimum of six feature films biweekly (3 per week) or 28 shorts biweekly (14 per week).
Heartland Film interns will serve a crucial role in putting on the Academy Award®-Qualifying Indy Shorts International Film Festival (July 23-28, 2024) and the 33rd Heartland International Film Festival (HIFF) (October 10-20, 2024) in Indianapolis.
At Heartland Film, we offer a fun and informative work environment where students can gain valuable experience in film festival planning and implementation, portfolio building, and networking opportunities in the nonprofit and entertainment industries.
Our internship positions are ideal for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at an accredited college/university who are looking to obtain school credit, or recent graduates within one year. Interns are expected to work a schedule of 12-20 hours per week with the potential to work more hours during the Film Festivals.
In 2024 we will be offering a mix of virtual and on-site internships. Interns who have on-site positions will ideally live in the Indianapolis area and must have reliable transportation.
