The Inaugural Heartland Film Festival took place October 21-25, 1992, and screened 8 films at the Walker Theatre and Circle Theatre. 


Robert Wise attended the Festival and was honored with the Lifetime Career Achievement Award. Other special guests that attended the festival include Eva Marie Saint (Oscar-winning actress for On the Waterfront), Ken Wales (Honored Robert Wise), Scott Derrickson (student filmmaker who went on to direct The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Doctor Strange), and Michael Gross was the Master of Ceremonies.
